Gather around at the specified pickup points and get ready to kickstart the backpacking journey in Uttarakhand. Delhi to Chopta is approximately 392 kms and takes about 10 hours to reach.

Wake up to the roads curving into Rishikesh early in the morning. We will take a pit stop here and then go on with the journey to Chopta. On the way, we visit Devprayag. Devprayag means the Godly confluence formed by the two holy rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi to form Ganga. From Rudraprayag, we take the route to Kedarnath and drive towards Chopta village via Agastyamuni and Ukhimath. We reach Chopta around Lunch.

On reaching Chopta you can relax for the rest of the day after a long road trip. Have dinner and retire for the night.

Wake up and have a stomach full breakfast to give you energy for the treks planned today. After breakfast we will do a short trek around Chopta and post lunch we will leave for the Joshimath Trek.

Located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Joshimath is the winter seat of the Lord Badri who’s idol is brought from Badrinath Temple to the Vasudeva Temple. We will reach by evening.

Upon reaching the stay, freshen up and have dinner. Sleep the weariness away.

Today we will head over to the winter sports capital of India, Auli. Auli is 16 kms from Joshimath and we will drive down there. The entire day is spent in marveling at the different sights that Auli beholds. In the night we will drive back to our stay at Joshimath.

Another road trip day! Post breakfast we leave to Rishikesh which is 300kms away. We take the PanchPrayag route and soak in the beauty of Uttarakhand and the snow-capped mountains. We will reach Rishikesh by night. Soak up warmth around the bonfire, have dinner and retire to your camps.

As mentioned earlier, Rishikesh is a town famous for its water sports and yoga culture. We will head out sightseeing Rishikesh. We will be visiting the Beetle’s Ashram, Laxman and Ram Jhula among others. After sightseeing get ready to fill your souls with adrenaline as its time for the famous River Rafting!

To cool the adrenaline down we will head over to watch a soulful aarti being performed on the ghats. A vedic priest and some of his students perform aarti to the river Ganga with the aid made to Agni, the fire god. Look in any direction and you will find the diyas floating on the river which is a sight to behold and priests with an aarti thali in their hand. Feel the spiritual vibes already?

We will depart to Delhi with dinner on the day.

We reach Delhi early in the morning and say goodbye to the fellow travelers.

As you have read, Uttarakhand backpacking offers spiritual experiences, adrenaline filled activities, beautiful views of the Himalayas, quaint villages and much more. We encourage you to go on this backpacking trip either solo or with a group of friends. Plan the Unplanned will make sure to add a lot more fun and make your journey memorable.

What’s life without adventure? Isn’t the real purpose of life to travel, to experience new places, and witness the sunrise from new mountaintops?

This thought is what united Jatin and Tarun over a cup of chai, in spite of being from two unrelated backgrounds (CA and IT). They knew each other since the time Jatin was helping Tarun learn the ways of the wilderness through weekend treks and outings with another traveling group. Their love for traveling and trekking together motivated them to start something of their own. Thus was born “Plan The Unplanned”, where travel goals come true. Under the Companies Act, Plan The Unplanned is incorporated as Unplanned Journeys Private Limited

They started their journey on unsteady ground, much like any other company, but they shared an infatuation for travel and adventure with their customers, which amplified their determination, and thus, Plan the Unplanned family keeps getting bigger every day!

Just about any travel idea can come alive with Plan The Unplanned…treks, adventure activities like rock climbing, kayaking, rafting, backpacking trips across the country, cultural outings, photo walks; everything that fellow travelers need, to explore the great outdoors together.

Well now that the wanderlust has kicked in and you can already see a vacation in your nearest future, here’s what we have to offer!

Frequest Questions

The best season for River Rafting is from September to mid-April. One should avoid the temperature of May and June as it becomes quite unnatural to regain the same essence.
2. Is there any age restriction for River Rafting in Rishikesh?
Yes, Kids below 14 years are not allowed to do river rafting in Rishikesh.

3. What will be the group size?
Usually, we take a maximum of 11 people in one group. We believe bigger groups have less fun and less coordination so that’s why we prefer smaller groups.

4. I am the only girl in the group, is it safe to travel solo?
Yes, definitely it is, the safety of girls is most important for us. All our guides and other staff are carefully chosen for trips. They are honest and reliable but we also advise you to take care of your personal belongings.
