Hemkund Sahib, formally known as Gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib Ji, is a Sikh place of worship and pilgrimage site in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, India. It is devoted to Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, and finds mention in Dasam Granth .

Hemkund Sahib is the Gurudwara situated at the highest altitude of 4329 mts. It is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand near Valley of Flowers. This holy shrine got its name from the glacial lake Hemkund, adjacent to the Gurudwara whose literal meaning is the ‘Lake of Snow’.

This pilgrimage place of Sikhs is dedicated to the tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji (1666-1708) and also finds its mention in Dasam Grant, a work dedicated to Guru Ji himself. A small temple of Lakshman, the brother of Lord Rama is also bedecked on the shore of Hemkund Lake.

The lake is surrounded by wild flowers with Brahma Kamal being the most popular among them. The atmosphere of this place exudes a feeling of calm and tranquility, which is most needed after the strenuous trek. Another interesting aspect of the lake is that it remains frozen for six months! Hence not accessible throughout the year.

• The must-not-miss thing is the hot tea served in the Gurudwara (shrine) which is heavenly to say the least. We will also visit the Laxman Mandir which is right next to the Gurudwara. After spending sometime in this serene environment. We descend back to Ghangaria for our overnight stay at the guesthouse/hotel.
