I am a true-blue Punekar at heart. Travel has always been a passion. So after completing masters degrees in environmental science and responsible tourism management, I worked and traveled extensively in India and abroad, exploring unique destinations, their culture and most importantly their local food. Combining my two passions - food and travel, in 2012, I launched my own travel company, The Western Routes which focuses on creating culinary and cultural itineraries across India. Rustic and local flavors is what excites and inspires me while on my food & travel explorations. I firmly believes in the famous quote by James Michener, “If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home."
Computer Engineer by education, Potterhead by heart, tomboy by nature and a traveller by passion. Somshekhar or Som for short, is a mechanical engineer who gave up his run-off-the-mill 9-5 job to experience the unexplored. His jolly nature brings the spark in the group, keeping it lively. He has a lot of stories about his solo travels and treks. Always cheerful & helping, he can tackle any kind of situation on the way. He is a budding photographer, loves nature and knows his part of protecting it. It literally takes minutes to make good friends.
A lawyer by education, Ashwini's heart was always in travelling the world and discovering the tastes that changed every few miles. Her obsession with star-lit skies, kadak chai and indie music will make you appreciate the smallest of moments when around her. More often that not, you'll catch her humming a tune or lending out recipes. A sucker for conversations, sustainability and cinema, she makes for a great companion no matter the kind of journey.
