Private Vehicle

Start from Bangalore, an overnight journey.

  • Reach village homestay, freshen up.
  • Fuel up with a nice Malnad style breakfast.
  • Head to the base of ancient Kavaledurga Fort to start the trek. The trail starts with lush green rice fields that give way to a human-made path constructed with boulders centuries back.
  • There is an ancient temple in the middle and many ponds that served as water stores at that time. This is a 1.5 Km easy trek (one way) with beautiful views of the rainforest from the top.
  • Head back to the vehicle, have packed lunch at the base.
  • Take a dip under a gushing waterfalls or the nearby stream (wherever allowed by local authorities at that time). Remember that safety is utmost priority.
  • Go on a drive to Kundadri hill, which is incidentally the highest point in the Agumbe western ghats range. Tempos can easily go to the top of the hill but a Bus cannot. We usually get open top vehicles carrying people up and down. If lucky, travelers might be treated with mist, along with floating clouds. From Kundadri one can have a sneak peek of the extremely dense Agumbe rainforest filled with rich vegetation, pristine rivers, and gigantic lakes.
  • Head back to the homestay by late evening.
  • Bonfire at night (if it doesn’t rain) with long conversations in the dark.
  • Well deserved hot Veggie dinner.
  • Rest in the homestay rooms with mattress placed in the rooms.

  • Wake up, freshen up, and have breakfast.
  • Say bye-bye to our homestay.
  • Visit beautiful backwaters nearby homestay, relax in the calmness of rainforest.
  • Head to colorful and buzzing Malpe beach on the west coast.
  • Break for Lunch at a beach restaurant.
  • Walk barefoot, play on the beach and indulge in plenty of water sports (if they are open).
  • Take a ferry ride (self-paid) to St. Mary’s island (if it is open).
  • Enjoy a peaceful sunset overlooking endless ocean.
  • Start back to Bangalore late evening, have dinner enroute at a Dhaba.
  • Overnight journey.

  • Reach Bangalore early in the morning.
  • Share your unique experience of Agumbe Rainfirest & Malpe Beach with family and friends!

Frequently Asked Questionss

Q: What is the stay arrangement in Agumbe?
A: Our village homestay is a duplex house with all the basic facilities. It is located in the heart of the rainforest. The surroundings are green, calm, and rejuvenating. One can hear many birds chirping in the morning. The first floor is usually assigned to women, and the ground floor is given to men. Both floors have spacious living rooms to keep your luggage and take good rest. Mattresses are arranged in the night. Both floors can easily accommodate 20 people overall. Additionally, there are 3 Quechua rain-proof tents of 2-sharing, just in case, anyone prefers to sleep outside. There is a common area with a lawn in front of the homestay which is used for the campfire and other activities.

Q: What is the arrangement of Washrooms in Agumbe trip?
A: There are common and well-maintained washrooms in different areas of the ground floor. They have bathing as well as a toilet facility. Hot water is provided in a typical village setting by burning wood in a heat chamber.

Q: What is the best time to vist Agumbe?
A: Surely the monsoons (June to Oct). It’s a great experience this time for the travelers who don’t care about getting wet and wild. Having said that, the water flow will be huge at this time. The best time to take dips in waterfalls is post monsoons (Nov to Feb). The climate is also very pleasant. Because of its proximity to the west coast, it doesn’t get too cold here.
