Highlights
A Char Dham Yatra is a significant pilgrimage journey in Hinduism, covering four sacred sites in India: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Each site holds its own religious and cultural importance, and the journey itself is believed to be spiritually enriching.
During the journey, you’ll experience a mix of spiritual practices, breathtaking natural beauty, and the camaraderie of fellow pilgrims. It’s essential to be prepared for varying weather conditions, especially in the higher altitudes, and to respect the religious customs and traditions observed at each site. Overall, a Char Dham Yatra is a profound and memorable experience for many devotees.
Yamunotri is the source of the Yamuna River, and the main attraction here is the Yamunotri Temple dedicated to the goddess Yamuna. The trek to the temple is quite scenic but can be challenging, as it involves walking uphill.
Gangotri is the origin of the Ganges River, and the Gangotri Temple is dedicated to Goddess Ganga. It's located amidst breathtaking Himalayan peaks, and devotees take a holy dip in the Bhagirathi River.
Kedarnath is home to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Kedarnath Temple is situated at an altitude of 3,583 meters and requires a trek or a pony ride to reach. The scenery is awe-inspiring, with snow-capped peaks surrounding the temple.
Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the 108 Divya Desams (holy abodes of Vishnu). The Badrinath Temple, situated on the banks of the Alaknanda River, is the main attraction. The temple is believed to have been established by Adi Shankaracharya.
