All About It
  • 4 Days  3 Nights
  • For 12+ years

People who see a jump in their adrenaline when they hear adventure, this is the trip for them. Strategically located on the Goa-Karnataka border (but mainly in Goa), Dudhsagar Falls attracts thousands of tourists to its bounty. The gushing water from the streams creates an illusion of milk flowing through the hill slopes. To put it straight, ‘Dudhsagar’ literally translates to Sea of Milk, describing the milky white water trickling down a height of 1,050m. The 5th highest waterfall in India is one of those picturesque falls that give you goosebumps just by looking at the tremendous force of the gushing water.

Also, not surprisingly, Dandeli is famous for being the adventure water sports capital of South India. We wouldn’t sell the myth that Dandeli is just about water sports and resorts. We wanted to show you the natural face of Dandeli by combining precisely what it is famous for and its less explored areas. And that's why we have added Ulavi caves(Akala Gavi) and  Secret waterfalls to our two-day Dandeli Adventure trip. Read on.

Located 480 km from Bangalore and 100 km from Goa, Dandeli is a taluk in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. Perched on the Kali river's banks, Dandeli is a fascinating mix of wildlife, scenic beauty, and adventure sports. It is a natural habitat for wildlife, including tigers, leopards, black panthers, elephants, gaur, deer, antelopes, and bears. Also, it is the second-largest wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka and was designated as a tiger reserve. Because of the rising tourism and other activities, the government is promoting eco-tourism with proper planning.

Along with spending time in the water, we will witness a sunset by the Kali River, explore 12th-century-old Ulavi caves and visit a hidden waterfall. Ulavi caves are composed of limestone and some of the most beautiful and unique caves. We get to see Vibhooti Kanaja, Akka Nagamma Gavi and Rudrakshi Mantapa and explore many other caves on our way in the forest.

With that being said, Plan the Unplanned team is excited to take you to the Combo of Dudhsagar and Dandeli to Welcome the New Year 2024. Go through the complete itinerary of the Dudhsagar and Dandeli Adventure Trip for the comprehensive plan and book your tickets at the earliest.

We begin our journey at around 5.30 in the evening. We’ll start early compared to the usual trek as we have over 560 km to cover. So, once we get out of the iconic Bangalore traffic and hit the Mumbai- Bangalore highway, our energetic trek leads will take over. Armed with fun activities & ice-breaking sessions, you’ll soon feel at home after knowing about everyone else on the bus. The trek leads will brief the itinerary of the trip ahead and leave you to catch some much-needed sleep

We will reach Kulem at around 8 am.

If you look outside, you should be on the narrow country roads of Goa, surrounded by vast lands of untouched wilderness. Embrace the untouched Goa while we slowly drive into Kulem through winding roads & picturesque landscapes.

The stay is one of the best you can find in Kulem and is only a minute’s walk from where the bus will be parked. Get your luggage, check into the designated rooms & freshen up quickly. Grab breakfast, pick up your packed lunch and start the trek. It is mandatory to have a guide and life jacket along with you. Without these, entry into the national park will be prohibited.

The initial walk is along the train tracks. This portion of the trek is about 4 km but is the most daunting one of all. It truly tests your patience and endurance while you’re taking baby steps. Watch out for the odd train and get off the tracks. You will be accompanied by chirps of birds, running streams, some hidden waterfalls & of course, your new-found family.

No need to rush on this track as we have ample time to cover the rest of the trek, more so because of the slippery rocks on the tracks. After about 4 KMs of walking on the tracks, we enter the jeep trail.

The trail from here is pretty flat and is filled with running water streams and dense evergreen forest stretches. After about 40 minutes of walking, you will reach the village of Sonaulim, which is marked by a shack selling refreshments and a Hindu temple on your right-hand side.

The trail gets narrow from here as you take a shortcut to avoid a longer jeep trail. The falls are only a 30-minute walk from here. Once you take the shortcut, you will get to see the adjoining mountain ranges. These ranges are the physical boundaries between Karnataka & Goa. After a walk through the muddy trail, you will encounter a hanging bridge. The bridge is slightly inclined, so be sure to hold onto the rope and walk slowly.

Once on the other side of the bridge, the narrow trail continues until we hit the jeep trail again. You can get the first glimpse of the mighty Waterfall on this trail. And soon after getting a glimpse of the falls, you will see the entrance to Dudhsagar Falls. There are changing rooms and a police outpost as well. After crossing a river stream filled with slippery rocks, and water flowing with incredible force, we’ll reach the foot of the fall.

We’ll stop here for lunch and refresh ourselves with a jump into the pool at the foot of the fall.

We’ll head back to Basecamp on the same way back and take a refreshing bath. After which, we will settle for a fulfilling dinner and a good night's sleep

Breakfast

(Self sponsered Lunch & Dinner)

In the morning, we will set out for the resort in Dandeli. To have maximum time at our disposal, we will leave as early as possible. Upon reaching, freshen up and have breakfast.

We will soon start for 'all day fun in the sun' aka water activities. Dandeli is 'THE DESTINATION' for White Water Rafting and adventure sports. These include Zorbing, Swimming, Kayaking, White Water Rafting, Jacuzzi and boating.

We cover all these activities. Hence, you do not need to pay anything extra at the venue. Just hop on your favourite sport as soon as you see it.

Have a late lunch, rest for some time and then watch a soothing sunset by the Kali river. Sit by the shore of the backwaters and relax.

Later we will return to the stay, have dinner and slowly drift to sleep amidst mellow conversations.

Trip Ends

Day 3 starts with freshening up and breakfast. Wear nice clothes and get out in a light temper. Today will be all about exploration. Firstly, we will go to Ulavi Caves

Ulavi is a small village, and it takes around 1 hour to drive there from our campsite. Once we reach, we hop on to Mahindra Pickups for our further transit. The route to the caves is adventurous and will be covered within a couple of hours. Each cave has a unique historical significance, and the stories date back to the 12th century.

The main cave is the Akala Gavi cave. This cave is at a higher position, and thus, an iron ladder is placed so visitors can easily climb and reach the cave. Spend some time here, and then we will make our way to the hidden waterfall.

After lunch, we will go to a waterfall. This waterfall has no name yet and is so remote that it has managed to stay out of the tourist spots list, and that’s what has kept it clean and serene, and we intend to keep it that way. It’s nestled in the middle of a thick forest, and thanks to our off-road vehicles, the journey takes around 45 minutes of a Jeep ride, and then we need to trek approximately 1-1.5 km in the forest to reach the waterfall.

The first view takes you by surprise, and you have to witness it by yourself to believe how beautiful the place is. Luckily the area below the waterfall is not too deep and makes it a perfect spot to get into the water and enjoy it. The cold water in the harsh summer sun in the middle of a jungle is much more awesome and exciting than it sounds.

During this time of the year, a dense waterfall is one of the rarest things to find, and we found it just for you! Imagine, dipping your feet here, registering that you came here and not even leaving a trace of it. After spending some time here, we will start our journey to Bengaluru and reach by 5 am the next morning.

That is it from the jolly New Year Dudhsagar and Dandeli Trip Combo. We hope you get everything you're looking for from this trip. Don't forget to stay in touch with all your new friends and don't ever stop exploring. We would love to see you againCheck out our other itineraries and ring us soon. It would be a pleasure to host you again. Till then, take care and love life.

What’s life without adventure? Isn’t the real purpose of life to travel, to experience new places, and witness the sunrise from new mountaintops? This thought is what united Jatin and Tarun over a cup of chai, in spite of being from two unrelated backgrounds (CA and IT). They knew each other since the time Jatin was helping Tarun learn the ways of the wilderness through weekend treks and outings with another traveling group. Their love for traveling and trekking together motivated them to start something of their own. Thus was born “Plan The Unplanned”, where travel goals come true. Under the Companies Act, Plan The Unplanned is incorporated as Unplanned Journeys Private Limited They started their journey on unsteady ground, much like any other company, but they shared an infatuation for travel and adventure with their customers, which amplified their determination, and thus, Plan the Unplanned family keeps getting bigger every day! Just about any travel idea can come alive with Plan The Unplanned…treks, adventure activities like rock climbing, kayaking, rafting, backpacking trips across the country, cultural outings, photo walks; everything that fellow travelers need, to explore the great outdoors together.
