Day 1 - The Gokarna Beach Trek

Trek

Hotel

Breakfast, Dinner
Peep out of your window and you will see the salt farms which gleam in the sun as a manifestation. Well, we will just about get there.
The sea is humid and has a salty smell as we roll up to the destination. Collect your belongings, walk into your lovely beach cottage, shower and eat a light snack. The actual adventure is just starting.
Our story begins in Belekan Beach where we hear the waves crashing around old rocky shores. Look out to the horizon and in case you are lucky, you may be able to see dolphins swimming by the Arabian Sea. The panorama is never ending and this is where we begin our first step into the trail.
We then come to Paradise Beach, which lives up to its name. Imagine untouched sands, calm waves, and rocks that are painted in their lines by artists traveling their way. Paradise is one of the most pristine beaches on the trail; raw nature harmonized with good human intentions. Savour the moment and take in.
Half Moon Beach is a crescent-shaped sanctuary and lapped in relaxed charisma between cliffs. This is the time to take a break. We will arrive here at lunchtime, so dig out your snacks and have some water and relax. Walk a bit further and you will reach the Rock of Peace - a seat of sunset chasers. The take here? Pure magic. The sky is painted in pastels, the sea in gold and, sometimes, when the universe is willing to be benevolent, we will see dolphins jumping along the horizon.
A trail goes forward to Om Beach which is naturally in the shape of the sacred Hindu symbol of Om. It is a very fulfilling, although fairly difficult, 2.5-3 km hike. When you get there, immerse yourself into the boho feel: buy yourself a handmade trinket, get a souvenir, or go out to the jet ski ride.
We bring the trek to its end at Kudle Beach which remains etched in the heart of every traveller. This is popular because of its seafood shacks, wood fired pizzas and acoustic sessions at sunset, so with every meal you have a view. Relax, allow the air to be having its fun with your hair, watch the waves coming and going and just feel the heartbeat.
With twilight, we go back to Gokarna Beach, where warmth is forecasted in the night. Sit around the campfire, tell your stories and find the stars to keep you company.

Breakfast
Rise and shine, fellow travellers! The calm of coastal Karnataka greets us as we begin our second day. After waking up and freshening up, we’ll check out and enjoy a simple breakfast to gear up for a day filled with scenic spots and soulful experiences.
First up, we visit Apsarakonda Falls, a quiet waterfall tucked away near Honnavar. Surrounded by lush greenery and caves, this place feels like something straight out of folklore. Legend says celestial maidens once bathed here — take a short walk, feel the mist, and just take it all in. If you’re up for it, you can explore the nearby Pandava Caves for a little extra magic.
After soaking in the falls, we’ll break for lunch at a local spot. It’s self-sponsored, so you can choose what you’re craving — maybe a coastal thali, a plate of piping hot idlis, or something light and refreshing.
Post lunch, we head to the Mangrove Board Walk — a peaceful trail right through the mangrove forests of Honnavar. The boardwalk lets you walk over the water and through the greens, offering a calm and quiet escape. It’s great for slow walks, bird-spotting, and a breather from the road.
Next, we stop by Eco Beach, a clean and quiet stretch of sand that’s perfect for a mid-afternoon pause. You can walk barefoot along the waves, sip on a tender coconut, or just sit and listen to the sea.
As golden hour sets in, we’ll wrap up the day with a sunset boat ride on the backwaters. This is the kind of experience that sneaks up on you — soft skies, gentle waves, and a peaceful end to the day.
Dinner will be on the way (self-sponsored), at a local place, before we board our vehicle and settle in for the overnight journey back to Bengaluru.
As you near the end of the journey, you will know something very beautiful: you did everything you wanted: you walked in forests, dipped your feet in five wonderful beaches, you saw the sunset over the water, and you walked inside a fort that is a hundred years old.
Two days and life-long memories.

What’s life without adventure? Isn’t the real purpose of life to travel, to experience new places, and witness the sunrise from new mountaintops? This thought is what united Jatin and Tarun over a cup of chai, in spite of being from two unrelated backgrounds (CA and IT). They knew each other since the time Jatin was helping Tarun learn the ways of the wilderness through weekend treks and outings with another traveling group. Their love for traveling and trekking together motivated them to start something of their own. Thus was born “Plan The Unplanned”, where travel goals come true. Under the Companies Act, Plan The Unplanned is incorporated as Unplanned Journeys Private Limited They started their journey on unsteady ground, much like any other company, but they shared an infatuation for travel and adventure with their customers, which amplified their determination, and thus, Plan the Unplanned family keeps getting bigger every day! Just about any travel idea can come alive with Plan The Unplanned…treks, adventure activities like rock climbing, kayaking, rafting, backpacking trips across the country, cultural outings, photo walks; everything that fellow travelers need, to explore the great outdoors together.
