Dinner

At 11:00 AM, the adventure starts and the group will meet at Manali Mall Road (provisional pickup point). Here you are going to meet your trek leader where you will be given a detailed briefing of the Hampta Pass trek - details of the route, trek safety, and what will happen during the next few days.

After the briefing we are driven to the base camp of the trek, Jobra, situated at 9,379 feet. The road trip is a visual delight; imagine that we are adorning the dense pine forests, a sharp hairpin bending, and the panoramic view of the Kullu valley that justifies the meandering road.

As we arrive at Jobra we get a short break to stretch and acclimatize ourselves then we set off to Chika. The path is gradual and shaded by rich pines, maple, oak, and deodar forests, with outstanding shade and relaxed peacefulness. In between, the serene rattle of Rani Nallah which is a glistening clear stream, winding into the meadows, turns to be your new friend.

When we arrive at Chika, our camping site is a beautiful all-green site framed with blue skies, we put up our tents and settle in. The evening is ideal to relax in the lap of nature and have a heavy dinner and spend the night under a blanket of stars.

Tip: Preferably, come to Manali a day prior to schooling to give your body time to adjust to the altitude and weather.

Rise under the cool mountain breeze and the sweet whispers of leaves in your Chika camping site. Enjoy a hearty breakfast, pack, fill water bottles, and form up with the briefing of the day.

The hike today will take you to Balu Ka Ghera which is a beautiful camp site located at altitude of 12,000 feet. The trail is 5.8 km long and can take approximately 5 hours to be passed. You can anticipate mixed terrain: a 2-hours of rocky ascent and 1-1.5-hour descent, mellow meadow hike, and another rocky trail that will end at a trail of loose stones.

Ensuring taking enough water with you as you leave Chika. You can refill the water at the natural water sources, which include streams among others, so it is advisable to keep taking water as you go along.

The path treats you with different landscapes on the ascent, along with colorful Himalayan rhododendron forests, cascading streams, and glimpses of the magnificent Dhauladhar range. We head to trek in one of the most beautiful valleys in the region; Jwara, a well-kept secret characterized by wildflowers that are seasonal and a lovely cascading waterfall.

When you finally arrive at Balu Ka Ghera you will be welcomed with an amazing lunch and wonderful views. Nestled between the surreal desert-like mountainous scenery, this paradise is excellent to stop, relax, and inhale the crude beauty of the Himalayas.

Share in the stories with your fellow trekkers in the evening over dinner. Sleep tight as the best part of the trek comes tomorrow!

Enjoy a good breakfast and then start your most interesting yet grueling part of your trek, the Hampta Pass crossing. The path first leads with a gradual climb along a rocky path which also needs plenty of care and sturdy feet.

The topography changes radically as you are ascending. You will cross the spectacular Hampta Pass, which is marked with a river flowing through a dream valley and filled with colorful wildflowers and sometimes even a rainbow over the sky. In the distance the snow covered peak of the Mount Deo Tibba looms to add grandeur to the scenery.

Take a break at the Pass (14,100 ft) to take in the view-- a real high point of your trip, in every sense of the word.

Here, start an easy descent to Shea Goru, make your way through slippery screen and loose soil paths. It may be a difficult downhill in some areas of steep slopes and tight curves. Move slowly and carefully, the valley below is worth all.

The path widens and blows into the peaceful meadows of Shea Goru after a few hours of the down slope, trekking. This is where we will camp.

Enjoy the night, relax - reflecting about your fabulous day of the adventure, and see the fellow trekkers, indulge in a cozy meal and get ready to sleep well before the next part of your trip tomorrow.

Get up with the silence of the mountains and have a laid-back breakfast and start with your last mountain bit towards Chatru. The path follows down steep, barren country, a sharp contrast to the green valleys in places on the trail. This stretch has loose rocks, glacier patches and sometimes streams, where adrenaline starts pumping.

Although the region is barren, there is an adventure of its own kind in the raw rugged landscape of the entrance to Spiti, which is like heaven to adventurers who like their scenery untampered.

After arriving at Chatru we take a short rest before (depending on weather) heading out to Chandratal, the Moon Lake, on an immensely beautiful 45 km drive at high-altitude, one of the most beautiful lakes in Himachal. Chandratal is a picturesque lake resting at an altitude of 14, 100 ft with its blue water and the magnificent view of snow-capped mountains in the background. Notice: this drive will be dependent on road and weather conditions; your safety is our priority.

Having enjoyed the unbelievable beauty of Chandratal, we will head back to Chatru, where we will spend our night at a campsite.

Enjoy a warm dinner, with the fire in the grill and beautiful mountains in front of the starlit sky and enjoy the feeling of success after the amazing trip.

Breakfast

Wake up to the fresh morning air of Chatru and have a cup of steaming tea with a truly royal breakfast. Hearts filled with the collected memories and cameras full of pictures we will set out on our way back to Manali.

The beautiful road is along Chandra River and sights are lush with the rugged mountains and pristine valleys. The journey back through the Atal Tunnel, one of the longest and highest tunnel in the world, forms a thrilling twist to the journey itself.

When we arrive at Manali, we bid goodbye to the other trekkers with whom you have traveled and walked and laughed together.

After rich memories of high-altitude excursions, scenic views, and new friends, the Hampta Pass trek officially ends.

What’s life without adventure? Isn’t the real purpose of life to travel, to experience new places, and witness the sunrise from new mountaintops? This thought is what united Jatin and Tarun over a cup of chai, in spite of being from two unrelated backgrounds (CA and IT). They knew each other since the time Jatin was helping Tarun learn the ways of the wilderness through weekend treks and outings with another traveling group. Their love for traveling and trekking together motivated them to start something of their own. Thus was born “Plan The Unplanned”, where travel goals come true. Under the Companies Act, Plan The Unplanned is incorporated as Unplanned Journeys Private Limited They started their journey on unsteady ground, much like any other company, but they shared an infatuation for travel and adventure with their customers, which amplified their determination, and thus, Plan the Unplanned family keeps getting bigger every day! Just about any travel idea can come alive with Plan The Unplanned…treks, adventure activities like rock climbing, kayaking, rafting, backpacking trips across the country, cultural outings, photo walks; everything that fellow travelers need, to explore the great outdoors together.
