Let’s dive into the enchanting world of Kerala, often referred to as “God’s Own Country.”
Kerala at a Glance:
Location: Kerala is a southwestern coastal state of India, nestled along the Malabar Coast. It stretches for about 360 miles (580 km) and varies in width from roughly 20 to 75 miles (30 to 120 km). Imagine lush green landscapes, serene backwaters, and coconut-fringed beaches—Kerala embodies tropical beauty.
Area: Despite its small size, Kerala packs a punch. It constitutes only about 1 percent of India’s total land area, but oh, what a delightful 1 percent it is!
Population: As of 2011, Kerala was home to approximately 33.4 million people. That’s a lot of friendly smiles and warm hospitality!
Capital: The capital city is Thiruvananthapuram (also known as Trivandrum). Say it with me: Thiruvananthapuram!
Unique Culture: Kerala has developed a distinct culture within the Indian subcontinent. Its own language, Malayalam, dances through the air, and its traditions are as vibrant as its lush landscapes.
Natural Beauty: Prepare to be awestruck. In the eastern part of the state, Anai Peak—the highest peak of peninsular India—crowns the Western Ghats. As you descend westward toward the coastal plain, you’ll encounter farmlands, lagoons, and backwaters. They call it the “Venice of India,” and rightly so!
Coastal Charm: Kerala lies on the Arabian Sea, bordered by the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It even surrounds the coastal enclave of Mahe, which is part of the Puducherry union territory.
So, whether you’re dreaming of houseboats gliding through tranquil waters, aromatic spice plantations, or ancient temples, Kerala has it all. It’s a place where time slows down, and every moment feels like a poetic pause.
Highlights
1. Munnar: The Hill Station Gem
- Tea Gardens and Spice Plantations: In Munnar, you’ll find lush tea gardens that stretch across rolling hills. The air is crisp, and the aroma of freshly plucked tea leaves fills the surroundings. Don’t miss the chance to explore spice plantations too—cinnamon, cardamom, and pepper thrive here.
- Mattupetty Dam and Echo Point: These spots offer breathtaking views of the reservoir and surrounding hills. Echo Point lives up to its name—you can shout into the hills and hear your voice bounce back!
- Eravikulam National Park: Trek through this park to spot the elusive Nilgiri Tahr—a rare mountain goat species. The misty landscapes add to the magic.
2. Thekkady: Wildlife and Spice Aromas
- Periyar Tiger Reserve: Take a boat ride on Periyar Lake and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife. Elephants, deer, and various bird species inhabit the lush forests around the lake.
- Spice Plantations: Thekkady is famous for its spice gardens. Learn about the cultivation of cardamom, cloves, and other aromatic spices. The fragrant air will leave you enchanted.
3. Alleppey (Alappuzha): Backwaters and Houseboats
- Houseboat Cruise: Imagine drifting along serene backwaters on a traditional houseboat. These floating palaces offer modern amenities and serve delicious Kerala cuisine. Spend a night on the gentle waters—it’s an experience like no other.
- Local Life: As you glide through the backwaters, observe local life—fishermen casting their nets, women washing clothes by the shore, and lush green paddy fields stretching to the horizon.
4. Kochi (Cochin): Gateway to Kerala
- Historic Fort Kochi: Explore the charming streets of Fort Kochi, where colonial architecture meets vibrant street art. Don’t miss the iconic Chinese fishing nets along the waterfront.
- Jew Town and Synagogue: Visit Jew Town, home to the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth. The area is also known for antique shops and spice markets.
- Kerala Cuisine: Savor traditional Kerala meals—puttu, appam, and fish curry. Kochi’s food scene is a delightful blend of flavors.
Who should attend?
Solo Travelers: If you’re a solo female traveler, Kerala is a fantastic choice. The camaraderie of a women-only group provides safety, companionship, and shared experiences. Plus, you’ll make lifelong friends.
Working Professionals: Whether you’re a corporate powerhouse, an artist, or a tech whiz, Kerala offers a delightful escape. Leave the spreadsheets behind and embrace the spice-scented air!
Homemakers and Retirees: Ladies who run the world (and households), this one’s for you! Take a break from daily routines, explore Kerala’s tea plantations, and maybe even learn a traditional dance move or two.
Students and Young Adventurers: If you’re still in college or just starting your career, Kerala’s blend of nature and culture will leave you awestruck. Plus, it’s Instagram gold!

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can join a TripNaari trip?
TripNaari trips are designed exclusively for women aged 18 and above. Whether you’re traveling solo, with friends, or with family, you’re welcome. We create itineraries that are inclusive, comfortable, and suitable for women from all walks of life and levels of travel experience.
Do I need to be very fit to join?
Not at all. Most of our trips are planned for all fitness levels, and if there are activities like light hikes or long walking tours, we mention them clearly in the itinerary. We never push anyone beyond their comfort level and always make sure the pace is enjoyable for everyone.
Can I join solo?
Yes, in fact most of our travelers are solo women. We match room partners thoughtfully to ensure comfort and compatibility so you’ll never feel alone. Many of our guests end up making lifelong friends during the journey.
How do you ensure safety during the trip?
Safety is our highest priority. We work only with verified accommodations and transport providers. Every trip is led by an experienced female trip leader from start to finish, and emergency contacts are shared before departure. We also use vetted local guides where necessary, and we keep track of all group members throughout the trip so no one is left unattended.
What hygiene measures do you follow?
We personally inspect all accommodations for cleanliness before confirming them. Rooms and washrooms are sanitized before check-in, and we only choose restaurants and kitchens that maintain proper hygiene standards. Our trip leaders also carry sanitization kits so that we can maintain cleanliness even in remote locations.
What is included in the package?
Most packages include comfortable twin or triple sharing accommodation, transport as per the itinerary in clean, well-maintained vehicles, selected meals, guided activities, and entry fees where mentioned, along with 24/7 assistance from your trip leader. The specific inclusions for your trip will be clearly stated in the itinerary.
What is not included?
Personal expenses, meals or drinks not mentioned in the inclusions, optional activities outside the itinerary, travel insurance unless specified, and flight or train tickets unless stated are usually not included. The exclusions for your specific trip will be listed in your itinerary.
How do I book my spot?
Booking is simple. You just need to pay the advance amount mentioned in your itinerary to confirm your seat. Once your payment is received, we send you an official booking confirmation email with all the initial details and next steps.
Will I get a reminder for the remaining payment?
Yes. Before your balance payment due date, you will receive a heads-up email and WhatsApp reminder so you can complete the payment on time. Once the full payment is received, we officially add you to the trip’s dedicated WhatsApp group.
What happens after I am added to the WhatsApp group?
Once you’re in the group, we share all the final details — meeting points, transport timings, packing tips, emergency contacts, and trip leader information. The group is also where coordination happens before departure, so you can connect with fellow travelers in advance.
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a fair and transparent cancellation policy, with refunds depending on how early you cancel. Complete details are shared with you before booking so you can make your decision with clarity.
Will I be sharing my room?
Yes, unless you request and book a private room upgrade, which is subject to availability. We make sure to match room partners thoughtfully so that you are comfortable and feel at ease during your stay.
Can you arrange vegetarian, vegan, or special meals?
Yes, we do our best to accommodate dietary needs such as vegetarian, vegan, Jain, gluten-free, or other special requests. Please inform us before the trip so we can coordinate with our hotels and restaurants.
How do you handle medical emergencies?
Our trip leaders are trained in basic first aid and carry essential supplies. We maintain a list of nearby hospitals and clinics for every destination, and we assist you in getting medical attention promptly if required. We recommend carrying personal medicines and informing us about allergies or medical conditions before the trip.
Can I consume alcohol or smoke during the trip?
Alcohol consumption is allowed in moderation and only in designated safe spaces. Smoking is permitted only in outdoor areas where it does not disturb other travelers.
How much luggage should I carry?
We recommend traveling light. A medium-sized suitcase or rucksack along with a small day bag works best. This makes transfers easier and ensures you have more mobility during the trip.
Will I receive a packing list?
Yes, once your booking is confirmed and closer to the departure date, we send you a detailed “What to Carry” guide for your specific trip. This includes clothing suggestions based on the season, essentials for hygiene and safety, and tips for packing smart while being respectful to local cultures.
