All About It
Meghalaya meaning “Abode of Clouds” in Sanskrit; is one of the seven Northeastern states of India, extremely famous for its subtropical forests and biodiversity, several waterfalls, etc. It is abutted by Assam in the northeast and Bangladesh from the south. Shillong the capital, also known as the Scotland of the east, is surrounded by spectacular lakes and lush green hills. Mawsynram, the wettest place on earth, and Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in India are also situated here. The region has a history of extraordinary craftsmanship, wood carving, and artistic weaving, especially in the Khasi and Jaintia districts. Some famous tourist attractions in the state are Dawki lake, Umiam lake, the Double-decker living root bridge, Elephant falls, and Cherrapunji.
Day 1 - Guwahati to Kaziranga
- Arrival at Guwahati Airport and meet your fellow backpackers. After a quick lunch we will depart for Kaziranga.
- Overnight stay at Kaziranga.
Day 2 - Kaziranga – Shillong
- We will start early in the morning by visiting Jungle Safari. After having breakfast let’s head out for Shillong.
- Overnight stay at Shillong.
Day 3 - Shillong to Cherrapunjee Waterfalls
- Today we will make our way to Cherrapunjee. We will explore the stunning Wei Sawdong falls, Noh Kalikai falls to refresh your soul.
- Head towards Mawsmai caves in search of fossils. Later check in at your stay in Cherrapunjee.
Day 4 - Living Root Bridge Trek
- We will start early in the morning from Cherrapunjee for Tyrna village. Tyrna is a small village about 12 km from Cherrapunjee.
- It will take about 40 minutes to reach Tyrna while watching the beautiful Meghalaya landscape.
- From Tyrna village we will start our journey i.e. downstairs (approx. 3500 steps) towards Nongriat.
- Once you reach Double decker bridge you will find The entire place was so calm and beautiful.
- There were a couple of small shops near the Double Decker root bridge.
- You can order Maggi and tea from one of them and have them at peace.
- After some time, you can return i.e. Upstairs (approx. 3500 steps) towards Tyrna Village.
Day 5 - Mawlynnong to Dawki to Indo Bangla Border
- Today we will go cleanest village of Asia i.e. Mawlynnong village.
- Mawlynnong is a village in the East Khasi Hills district of the Meghalaya state in North East India.
- It is notable for its cleanliness and also was chosen by Discover India magazine as Asia's cleanest village.
- Then we will depart for Dawki and Indo Bangla border.
- Dawki is most famous among tourists for the fascinating Umngot River, also known as Dawki River, which features water so clear it could be mistaken for a see through glass.
- Later we will head towards Shnongpdeng for Camping, Boating, Fishing and other adventure activities like cliff jumping, scuba diving, kayaking and snorkelling.
- Dinner and Overnight stay at Shnongpdeng Camps.
Day 6 - Shillong Local Sightseeing
- Today we will explore many charms of Shillong.
- We will visit Elephant Falls, Shillong Peak & View Point, Don Bosco Museum, Laitlum Canyons, Police Bazar, Ward's Lake and many others if time permits.
- As it will be the last night of our trip we will explore the night life of Shillong by visiting amazing cafes of shillong or you can enjoy shopping in Police Bazar.
- Dinner and Overnight stay at Shillong.
Day 7 - Departure Day
- Have a delicious breakfast and pack your bags as we say goodbye to the land of clouds - Meghalaya.
- With a heavy heart say Good Bye to your friends as you make promises to keep in touch and catch up again soon! Drop off at Guwahati airport.
