All About It
  • 1 Days
  • Difficulty - Easy
  • Best Season - July August September

Just a short distance outside the borders of our concrete cityscapes of Bombay lies a plethora of tropical forests just waiting to be explored. The Palghar district, situated just beyond the western suburbs is the perfect example — lush forests, old temples, forts of lore, and the confluence of the vital rivers of Vaitarna and Tansa.

We begin our adventure from a hamlet in the foothills of the Western Ghats. Picture this: a carpet of paddy fields by your feet, a lush forest by the borders of the fields, and canopied mountains at the horizon — painting the entire sight in every shade of green. Now imagine a winding path that goes through these fields, meandering along a lazy river, through the woods, and leads you to a serene waterfall. If you like what you’re seeing, imagine what it’s like being there!

Breakfast

7:30 am: We assemble at Virar station, on the east to be precise. Walk to our breakfast spot, and grab some breakfast.

8:30 am: After breakfast, we board our privately booked vehicles and head towards the base village.

9:30 am: On arrival, we embark on our adventure and explore the wonders of village life and witness simplicity and purpose intertwine seamlessly. We keep walking further into the woods as the diverse environment slowly unravels its beauty to us. We’ll make our way to the waterfall at an easy pace. Be prepared to cross the river a few times.

12:00 pm: After chilling at the waterfall, we’ll come down and chill by the river. When we’re tired of chilling, we’ll head to a good spot and eat lunch — community-style. We love people who bring extra food.

1:00 pm: We return to our starting point and board the vehicles, with a pocketful of that natural goodness and healing. We head back to Virar.

2:30 pm: Arrive at Virar Station and start your journey back to where you came from. Until next time Vagabonds!

Vagabond started out as a project by four friends with a disdain for the ordinary. The idea was simple; take people out of their comfort zones. Not like Roadies, but just enough to bond them together through beautiful and authentic experiences. Happiness, as they say, is only real when shared. And share we did. The company was founded in 2014. As fresh Bachelor of Arts degree holders, companies were lining up to hire us fine gentlemen; we’re kidding. Fueled by entrepreneurial zeal, we started with small events in the city like heritage walks through Bombay’s old quarters. As musicians and travellers ourselves, we decided to marry these two loves of our lives. That is how the idea for the first Fields of Sound™ came about. Since then, it has only been onward and upwards for us. Since 2014, we’ve made friends like family through our journey. Our little ‘Vaga’-Fam. It’s safe to say, it’s been quite an adventure. One we would like you to join :)

Frequest Questions

Q: How difficult is this trail?
A: ‘Of Fields and Forests’ is a nature trail that takes you deep into a forest in rural Maharashtra. While it is a trail walk, we will however be crossing knee-deep streams and slippery boulders in a tropical forest. It’s the perfect introduction to a wild jungle trail.

Q: How do I get to the meeting point?
A: Catch a Mumbai local train on the western line heading towards Virar. Meet your Vagabond EMs at the station exit on the east.

Q: Are there any washrooms during the trail walk?
A: There will be no washroom amenities once we start our walk. However, we will make a stop for a washroom break just before we reach our starting point.

Q: Can I bring my pet?
A: We have had multiple hikers in the past bring their dogs to this location. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. You will have to travel back and forth in your own private vehicle. There are stray dogs we'll encounter throughout the trail. Get in touch with us if you’d like more info on this.

Q: What about lunch?
A: As there is little or no way we can provide lunch on this trail, you are expected to carry your own packed lunch. We will, however, provide you with some lip-smacking breakfast at a local Maharashtrian dhaba before we start our day.

Q: What's a Founders' Find?
A: If you've been a dedicated follower of Vagabond Experiences, chances are you've already had the pleasure of meeting one of our founders during your adventures. Throughout their years of exploring the vast outdoors, they've discovered numerous scenic spots, tucked away in and around the city, which remain relatively unexplored. These spots are relatively unique, and our founders intend to keep them a bit off the beaten path. With our Founders' Finds, we offer you an opportunity to explore the great outdoors without the hassle of dealing with overwhelming crowds, challenging ascents, or finding good company. These carefully curated experiences promise a tranquil and immersive journey into nature's wonders.

Q: What's Vagafam?
A: Vagafam is a loyalty discount for those who have joined us on a minimum of 3 experiences in the past. If you have travelled with us 3 times before, reach out to us and you can start availing of the Vagafam discount going forward.
