DETAILS

Day 1

Depart from Delhi

We set our journey from Delhi as a common point. All board the bus to reach the start point of our expedition i.e. Manali. Though it’s a smooth ride to Manali but the excitement to Leh-Ladakh will keep you on edge and bouncy throughout the drive. Its tomorrow we will be in the laps of Himalayas and a step closer to our dream journey to Leh and Ladakh.

Day 2

Arrive Manali + Briefing

After a long ride to Manali we recline here. We crusade to higher altitudes from 3rd day onwards. Reaching to a whopping height of 18,380ft on our journey isn’t an easy task. Complete briefing about the road, rules of riding and climate via presentation will thus be a mandatory task in the evening. Along with allotment of our companion throughout: our bullets will be handed over. Either sit back and set yourselves for the coming days or hit the roads of Manali. Manali sets a wonderful trailer for our upcoming movie with a twist of more civilization.

Day 3

Manali to Sarchu

Every biker once must have dreamt of this ride. Here we flag off our ride through bustling roads of Manali. Through dense forest as we move up slowly and gradually we see trees fading and snow bed welcoming us ahead. With Manali city at a distant vision, it gets lost in the snaky trail taking us up to our first mountain pass: Rohtang Pass. With beast in hand, cruising through the valleys and deserted region we reach another pass which marks the entry to Leh: Baralacha La. We not only ride through off roads but there are several water crossings too which adds flavour to the already exotic ride. From witnessing colour shades of grey, white and black on the road, the turquoise river follows us along our way to Sarchu. We halt at Sarchu and get accustomed to the low oxygen level in the air and rest for the night

Day 4

Sarchu to Leh

After catching up on some good sleep which is very important at this altitude we head towards Leh. With barren mountains and smooth roads running from infinity to infinity we cross through Gata loop. The 21 hairpin bends are twisted roads no less than a roller coaster ride. From turning right to left to right every few minutes is an experience worth taking. Crossing Nakee La pass we reach to Moore plains. We are only left to wonder that at a height of 15,650ft, between huge rocky structures lays a barren land running till where our eyes reach. Crossing Tanglang La, the third highest motor able road at a height of 17,480ft and Lachung La at 16,600ft, we make our way to some greenery around. The little vegetation indicates our proximity to Leh. We have finally made to the destination we awaited for. After such a long drive its only sleep we look forward to.

Day 5

Leh

We are finally in the town which we can brag about later. The markets, the houses, the food, the people, the monasteries, the palace and Leh in whole will force you to stay there and sulk in its charm. If we can term just gazing at the elegance with which Shanti Stupa stands tall above the town as meditation, you are sure to be enlightened then. We get to see the spectacular view of Ladakh valley from the Leh palace. One can also pay homage to the warriors who lost their lives in Indo-Pak war by visiting Hall of Fame museum. Leh isn’t a widely spread town, yet it offers various sights to see each giving a unique experience. To hear monks chant the prayers, light the butter lamp and encounter all new culture, one can visit the Thiksey Monastery. For some amazing life hacks and ease of living, one can learn new tricks and techniques from kids in 3-Idiot School. Do try out some local cuisines and shop hunt. Relax with a sip of butter tea by the side and conclude the day.

Day 6

Leh to Nubra

We embark our journey to Khardung La pass, the highest motor able road at 18,380ft. There are no words to describe the feel of being ‘On top of the World’ in literal sense. The pass has its own way of welcoming its visitors. From Tibetan flags waving us from far of distant to pampering us in the lap of the mountain, it soothes us to the core. We continue our way to Nubra valley. The true meaning of cold desert is witnessed here. A widespread of stunning silver sand dunes of Hunder and double humped camels breaks the monastic and scenic approach to Leh-Ladakh. Nubra has another advantage to it of being the third glacier of Siachen. This is the closest we can get to the Siachen glacier where our defence men safeguard us at -50 degree Celsius temperature round the year.

Day 7

Nubra to Pangong

After the nightstay at Nubra we head back to via Shyok River. Enroute we will explore villages like Shyok and Agam which are no less than a heaven. We will reach Pangong Tso by evening. Since the time anyone has seen the Pangong Lake either in movies or through pictures, its aura has pulled people towards it from far - far off places. People fall short of words in describing the charisma of this lake. No wonder claiming for lake caused subtle disputes between India and China in the year 2017. Serenity of the place, tall mountains standing behind the lake and sky reflecting water makes it a compulsion for everyone to spend a night here under the stars.

Day 8

Pangong to Leh

From here we start our return journey. Changthang valley on the route will leave you spell bound. It’s not only rich with great lakes (Pangong being one of them) and vast highlands but hides in them rare wildlife species. Black necked cranes, seagulls, blue sheep and Kyangs being few of them makes this valley a wildlife sanctuary. As we move ahead we are nothing but nostalgic as we had raced through the same path a day before. On reaching Leh we sign off for the day.

Day 9

Leh to Sarchu

This would be our last day in the Leh-Ladakh valley. We pass through many distinguished motor able passes (Tanglang La, Lachung La and Nakee La) we crossed by before. Each pass marks a new trait for the onward journey and unveils the appeal of various valleys we bid bye to.

Day 10

Sarchu to Manali

As we descend we get a little closer to the chaotic civilization which Leh-Ladakh was free off. Not to mention the further we go away from Leh & Ladakh, it calls us from behind for one more visit or just one glimpse of it. Keeping all the memories in mind we pass through Baralacha La in Lahaul valley which marks the end of deserted yet loving Leh-Ladakh. We drive through Rohtang Pass to see gliders in the sky and witnessing life in hustle-bustle again.

Day 11

Depart from manali

Biding good bye to our love (bullet) throughout the tour is no less pain than leaving the cold desert behind. Photographs and Videos en route will definitely ease the pain. We head back to Delhi with all the amusement, fun, enjoyment and excitement we started our journey with.

Day 12

Reach Delhi

We reach Delhi and proceed for our onward journey from here. Though the trip ends, the memory of it lives with us forever. Looking forward to another trip in coming future we bid farewell.

I been urging to go on for a trek for very long. Then I saw Treks Unlimted post on trek on TN-KL border. I saw their itinerary and joined them without any expectations. It happens to be a complete package of trek, site visit, road trip, amazing local food and not to mention lots of fun. The trip is well organized considering the season. The hospitality provided by the guides family cant be explained by words, if could only be felt. I dont think, I would have spend my weekend any better other than going on a trek with them. I felt very nostalgic seeing "Ghats Own Country" once again with different set of people. A big thanks to the team Treks Unlimited
