Day 0 - Depart from Bengaluru
As the city lights of Bengaluru fade behind you, the road to North Malabar opens up ahead — winding through misty highways and sleepy towns. This overnight journey marks the beginning of a monsoon-soaked escape into the unexplored heart of Kerala.
Day 1 - Rustic Retreat, River Adventures & Cloud-Kissed Trails
The journey begins as you arrive at Cherupuzha bus stand, where our team will be waiting to welcome you. From there, we head straight to the cozy homestay tucked away amidst Malabar’s greenery. Kickstart the day with a hearty Kerala-style breakfast before heading out for a relaxed farm walk, soaking in the rustic charm of the countryside.
As the sun climbs higher, gear up for some water adventure — choose between kayaking or river rafting on the Thejaswani River, where gentle currents and lush banks make it both refreshing and fun. By afternoon, sit down to a wholesome lunch featuring authentic local cuisine.
Post-lunch, lace up your shoes for the highlight of the day: a short trek to Cloud Nest via Tabor Hills. This 5 km to-and-fro hike rewards you with sweeping views, misty landscapes, and the feeling of being perched above the clouds. It’s the perfect blend of effort and awe.
As dusk falls, return to the homestay for a traditional dinner packed with regional flavors. Spend the evening relaxing, sharing stories with fellow travellers, and letting the peaceful Malabar night lull you into rest — ready for the adventures that await.
Day 2 - Caves, Waterfalls & the Goodbye Trail
Wake up to the sounds of monsoon-drenched mornings and the smell of fresh breakfast. After a relaxed start, we head out to explore the ancient Odakkolly Caves — natural rock formations hidden deep in the wilderness, carrying tales as old as time. With curious shapes and tight corners, the caves offer just the right amount of thrill and mystery to start your day.
As we drive further, the landscape shifts from rugged rock to flowing waters, and we make our way to Meenthully Waterfalls. Tucked away in the forest, this seasonal beauty is the perfect finale to our journey — a place to sit, reflect, splash around, or simply enjoy nature’s music.
After a final meal en route, we begin our journey back, carrying with us stories of rivers crossed, trails walked, and a deeper connection with the untamed side of Malabar. Expect to reach Bengaluru by early morning the next day, tired but full of monsoon magic.

What’s life without adventure? Isn’t the real purpose of life to travel, to experience new places, and witness the sunrise from new mountaintops? This thought is what united Jatin and Tarun over a cup of chai, in spite of being from two unrelated backgrounds (CA and IT). They knew each other since the time Jatin was helping Tarun learn the ways of the wilderness through weekend treks and outings with another traveling group. Their love for traveling and trekking together motivated them to start something of their own. Thus was born “Plan The Unplanned”, where travel goals come true. Under the Companies Act, Plan The Unplanned is incorporated as Unplanned Journeys Private Limited They started their journey on unsteady ground, much like any other company, but they shared an infatuation for travel and adventure with their customers, which amplified their determination, and thus, Plan the Unplanned family keeps getting bigger every day! Just about any travel idea can come alive with Plan The Unplanned…treks, adventure activities like rock climbing, kayaking, rafting, backpacking trips across the country, cultural outings, photo walks; everything that fellow travelers need, to explore the great outdoors together. Frequently Asked Questions
1. What does the trip fee include?
The trip fee covers stay with meals, rafting, cave visit, waterfalls, Tabor Hills, and trek leader support.
2. How much extra should I budget for transport?
Sleeper bus costs around ₹4,000 (to & fro). Jeep rides cost around ₹800. We’ll confirm exact prices before departure.
3. Is there a minimum group size for this trip?
Yes, we need a minimum of 6 participants for one of our trek leaders to accompany the group. If fewer, the trip will still run with a trusted local ground coordinator, and the final cost may vary.
4. Do you provide any assistance in booking travel to Cherupuzha?
Yes. We coordinate a common sleeper bus from Bangalore for participants and share all details in the WhatsApp group. If you’re joining from another city, we guide you on the best routes and connect you with our local coordinator for smooth transfers. We recommend booking at least a week in advance to secure better seats.
5. Why is this trip not organised the usual PTU way?
This is a curated offbeat experience. Unlike our regular fixed treks, the Malabar trip is flexible — sleeper buses, homestays, and activities are chosen based on what works best for the group and season. It’s meant to be more personal and exploratory, so the structure and pricing differ slightly from our usual trips.
