Uttara Kannada oozes elegance from its abundant natural wealth of flora and fauna. It is a seething biodiversity hotspot embellished with camera-friendly destinations like Gokarna, Kumta, Honnavar, Murudeshwar, and Dandeli. Sitting at the South-East corner is Sirsi – Uttara Kannada’s largest town and leading commercial centre.
Suppose you want to spend your weekend in nature's company and avoid trekking much. In that case, we have fantabulous 100 acres of property for you to engage in distinguished adventures and have the best camping experience amidst magnificent hills. You will indulge in learning about the rich biodiversity of the Western Ghats, get clear river views, take delight in nature walks, bird watching, etc. This is Captain’s Camp in Sirsi! An army veteran owns the property. Every amenity is well-thought.
The camping experience is one of a kind, with comfortable mattresses, lights inside the tent, well-lit common areas, and a clean washroom. You wouldn't want to come out of your tents once you are inside but listen to this: all places are offbeat and less crowded; don’t miss those.
Activities—Air Rifle Shooting, Archery, Army Obstacle Course, trekking to sunset point, Spice Plantation Tour—are loaded with adventure.
We will ride to Yana Caves, 40 km from the campsite. Observers of the Sahyadri mountains, and the unique rock formations of the Western Ghats – Yana Mountain, stand fearlessly guarding the area.
Next on the plate is Sahasralinga, which means "thousand Shiva's linga". Floating silently in the river bed of river Shalmala are 1000 carved Shiva lingas and Nandis. Sahasralinga (1000 lingas) is a unique pilgrimage site famous among locals for a quick getaway. One feels the mystical presence of positivity in its environs; river Shalmala—a tributary of river Bedthi—sings of beauty and magic.
We will also visit Muregar Falls. Hiking down to Muregar Falls while stepping on rocks is an experience. Take a dip and spend some hours feeling the freshness.
This Sirsi Exploration itinerary is perfect for beginners who want to experience trekking and sleeping in camps. All treks are easy in difficulty. When we went there, we promised ourselves to bring you too. Plan the Unplanned team is excited to take you on the Sirsi Exploration journey. Go through the complete itinerary for the comprehensive plan and book your tickets at the earliest.

All Meals
Upon arrival at Captain’s Camp, you can freshen up and have breakfast. It is a 100-acre campus: with farms, forests, water streams and some caressed spots for sunsets. Let's take one wave at a time.
We will go for a small trek where the property manager will give us a Spice Plantation Tour. It is good to note that he has a degree in horticulture. Taking a tour with him is no less than watching National Geographic for 8 hours straight. He will show us the rarest trees, endangered plants, insects, bees and fruits. Also, you would be surprised to know how those most delectable spices are grown and cultivated.
Later, get ready to hit the bull's eye; air rifle shooting is arranged. Following this, you can go for a game of Archery.
Now prepare to go to the most beautiful Yana Caves. Pitch black, the Yana caves are formed of Karst limestone. The colour and dimension of the monolith captivate and send viewers to another world. These two rock formations are the Bhairaveshwara Shikhara (390 feet) and the Mohini Shikhara (300 feet). Surrounding many mystical tales, the cave temple blesses its devotees. Travellers can watch water dripping from the projecting rocks over the Shiva lingam. An idol of Goddess Parvathi is found at the base of the Mohini Shikhara.
After this, we will take a lunch break at the campsite. As we return from Yana Caves, the lunch might get delayed; hence it is advised to have a heavy breakfast.
We will spend some time at waterfalls and streams to beat the heat. Note the flow of the waterfall depends on the season.
In the evening, we will go for a stunning sunset. Take a hike to the sunset point and spend some time there.
Later, we will sit by the campfire and have dinner. Then at around 10:30 pm, all of us will prepare to sleep and retire in tents.
Day 3 - Army Obstacle Course, Muregar Falls and Saharalinga Visit
Private Vehicle
Stay Not Applicable
Breakfast
Freshen up with sips of tea and get ready to roll your stamina. As highlighted, this is the property of an army veteran. It's no surprise that he has arranged an army obstacle course. Imagine falling, crossing and winning over your fears. This obstacle race will test your strength, speed and agility. You will run, jump, dodge, crawl and swing to finish.
After the activity, we will have our breakfast.
Then we will make our way to Muregar Falls. It is a small hike on rocks. So, wear slippers or shoes with a good grip. We will spend some time here and take a break. If you want, you can even jump inside the natural pool.
We will then go to Sahasralinga. The place is situated 14 km from Sirsi. These lingas were installed by the ruler Sadashivaraya of the Vijayanagara kingdom between 1678 and 1718. Sadly most of these carvings are destroyed because no restoration project was carried out in the past.
Things you can try in Sahasralinga:
- Devotees can dip in the holy water of river Shalmala. Beware of the water snakes.
- Stand undisturbed on the banks to get a natural fish spa.
- Indulge in meditation.
- Go to the Hanging Bridge and click beautiful memories.
- Indulge in snacking at the local cafeteria.
Later, we will have our lunch (self-sponsored) en route to Bangalore. As it is a long journey, we will stop by for pit stops. Keep things happening as you play, dance or simply talk with your people.
That is it from the weekend. We hope you get everything you're looking for from this trip. Don't forget to stay in touch with all your new friends, and never stop exploring. We would love to see you again—check out our other itineraries and ring us soon. It would be a pleasure to host you again. Till then, take care and love life. What’s life without adventure? Isn’t the real purpose of life to travel, to experience new places, and witness the sunrise from new mountaintops? This thought is what united Jatin and Tarun over a cup of chai, in spite of being from two unrelated backgrounds (CA and IT). They knew each other since the time Jatin was helping Tarun learn the ways of the wilderness through weekend treks and outings with another traveling group. Their love for traveling and trekking together motivated them to start something of their own. Thus was born “Plan The Unplanned”, where travel goals come true. Under the Companies Act, Plan The Unplanned is incorporated as Unplanned Journeys Private Limited They started their journey on unsteady ground, much like any other company, but they shared an infatuation for travel and adventure with their customers, which amplified their determination, and thus, Plan the Unplanned family keeps getting bigger every day!
