When the days start getting heavier and harder, you just need an escape.

What if we tell you that there is an escape waiting for you, just 65 kms or so from your office desk?

Uttari Betta has to be one of the best kept secrets of Karnataka - also known as Hutridurga, this is an adorable little hamlet, which is where you get to start this amazing trek. And it doesn’t matter if you are a newcomer to the world of trekking or are a solo female trekker, at Plan The Unplanned, we are here for you. When you choose to embark on the Uttari Betta sunrise trek, you are choosing to take that “me” time that you truly deserve and need - a quick escape from the daily grind and a chance to reconnect with yourself.

Imagine starting in the twilight hours and watching the sun pour over the horizon like liquid gold. Bid a temporary adieu to everything else - and simply reconnect with yourself, while nature showcases its magic all around you.

Trek highlights

Whether you are a starter or a seasoned trekker who just wants a quick escape, we at Plan the Unplanned can assure you that this trek is perfect for you. With our trek leaders, the Uttari Betta trek difficulty level might not even be a concern (but worry not, as this is a relatively easy trek).

When the fumes of the city are starting to leave you breathless, maybe it’s time to change gears for just a bit. Maybe, it’s time to climb rugged trails that wind through lush green foliage, gaze in wonder at stoic fort walls and mysterious caves that tell tales of the days past and take the time to reconnect with yourself. With each step, you go deeper into a landscape where time itself appears to have been suspended and meet some like-minded people too!

  • We promise you the most spectacular sunrise and an amazing early morning adventure
  • Guaranteed spectacular views that will leave you spellbound
  • Lean in to listen to the stories of a lost past, that still hide in the ancient fort walls
  • Make your way up the rock-cut stairs that offer cardio as well as captivating sights
  • Take a breather at the feet of the Sankareswar temple, before you head back with a spring in your step

Whether you want a moment of calm, a rush of adrenaline, or just a new tale to tell, the Uttari Betta Sunrise Trek provides it all — in mist, in history, and all in the gentle light of dawn.

Breakfast

It starts at the small hours of dawn, when you are on an adventure in a dark village with no sounds. When your legs begin to feel the walk, up in front of you the ancient fort all of a sudden appears like a timeless wonder. As you enter the huge stone walls, on your way to the seven impressive gates, you will feel you have gone back into the time lost. The path here passes through huge boulders and weather worn stone steps, have no fear as our trek guides will be right beside you, encouraging you on.

Our ascent takes us to the calm Shankareswar Temple which is halfway up the hill. It is an ideal place to rest and enjoy a view that is almost magical.

Shortly after, the path takes you into some sort of a jungle cave where nothing reminds you of the outside world, but nature reigns here. It is calm, crude and a mystery uncovered, as a secret told by the woods.

And so, as dawn rises, an open plain meadow by some old rough rocks emerges. This is where we sit down and wait - for the sun to emerge between the clouds. In the morning, when the sun comes out, the hilltop becomes a colourful picture - a cascade of golden light on the green grass, some gentle clouds and the silhouette of stones. It’s still. It’s stunning. And a few moments you will hear nothing but your breath and the breeze.

Now the sun shining glows into our memory, so we descend. Spend time on the way down - it’s worth it. We emerge with full hearts and a phone full of memories, after a fast, well-deserved breakfast, and take off again towards Bangalore.

About Host

What’s life without adventure? Isn’t the real purpose of life to travel, to experience new places, and witness the sunrise from new mountaintops? This thought is what united Jatin and Tarun over a cup of chai, in spite of being from two unrelated backgrounds (CA and IT). They knew each other since the time Jatin was helping Tarun learn the ways of the wilderness through weekend treks and outings with another traveling group. Their love for traveling and trekking together motivated them to start something of their own. Thus was born “Plan The Unplanned”, where travel goals come true. Under the Companies Act, Plan The Unplanned is incorporated as Unplanned Journeys Private Limited They started their journey on unsteady ground, much like any other company, but they shared an infatuation for travel and adventure with their customers, which amplified their determination, and thus, Plan the Unplanned family keeps getting bigger every day! Just about any travel idea can come alive with Plan The Unplanned…treks, adventure activities like rock climbing, kayaking, rafting, backpacking trips across the country, cultural outings, photo walks; everything that fellow travelers need, to explore the great outdoors together. Well now that the wanderlust has kicked in and you can already see a vacation in your nearest future, here’s what we have to offer!
