Agumbe is one of our most celebrated and frequently requested event. The popularity of this has a lot to do with the experience at Agumbe Rainforest Research Station (ARRS) . Situated just 1 Kms away from Agumbe Bus Stop, this field based conservation and research organisation is world's first to have conducted a very high frequency study on King Kobra, which later helped to study several unique patterns of the other snakes. The station complex comprises the Kudremukh National Park, Sharavathi Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary and Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary.
In our informative program to witness nature up & close, we will be travelling to Someshwara wildlife sanctuary and Vana Gabbe. Both these places offer an opportunity to see rare wild species and varied flora. To make this experience even more enriching, we will have an exclusive educational session by the researchers of ARRS, just for The Great Escape’s family. Also, no trip to Agumbe is complete without paying a visit to Doddamane, a 130 year old house (famously known as Malgudi Days home) and we don’t intend on breaking the ritual ;).
Be a part of this less travelled path and experience a thrill that will continue to give you goosebumps for a long time.

Program at Agumbe Rainforest Research Station (ARRS).
ARRS is a field based conservation and research organisation situated inside the Agumbe Reserved Forest at Agumbe in the western ghats of southern India. It was founded in the year 2005, by leading Indian herpetologist Romulus Whitaker. ARRS conducts and facilitates a wide variety of research projects on rainforest ecology and reptiles. Apart from research, ARRS focuses on education and outreach in the local community.
On arrival at Agumbe, the team heads off to ARRS. Post breakfast gear up for an introductory session by the ARRS staff followed by a tour of the campus. Walking along the beautiful riverbed in the canopied rainforest in the first realization that we are situated right in the middle of a forest. If lucky, we can spot elephant footprints and marks too.
After the tour, we come back for lunch. Authentic home cooked Malnad food is served, a delight to our taste buds. Lunch is followed by the much awaited presentation on the King Cobra research. The rest of the evening is spent exploring the town of Agumbe. Head off to the famous sunset view point to witness the magical sunset and come back to the campus for dinner.
After dinner, accompany the researchers for a night inside the forest to experience how nocturnal animals are observed in the dark for research purposes.
Head back to our beautiful cottages ( our stay at ARRS) and call it the night.

After the trek we return to ARRS campus have our lunch and spend some time roaming around the campus. In the evening we plan to visit Doddamane, a 130 year old house in the rainforest of Agumbe which is run by a sweet old lady, Kasturi Akka, who welcomes travelers with an open heart. "The Great Escape" upholds its name, literally! Among the couple of trekking organisations that I have hiked with in Himalayas, TGE is one of the best. They plan the trek very well, adapting the route and camping locations to factors like weather and the footfall. The support staff is experienced and deft, food great, and trekking practices "green". The organisers themselves are friendly and look after the group well. At the same time, they are firm, decisive, and in a mode of continuous improvement! It is a pleasure trekking with TGE, and I would highly recommend them! Good luck Reetu & Jamila...and keep rocking !
The review is long due. I went with the organizers of The Great Escape multiple times and it was a very memorable experience. Well organized and curated treks with attention given to the minutest details. The organizers Reetu and Jamila are the best and I would recommend them to any

Very well organized treks. I know the organizers personally and can vouch for fun filled events that they organize. I have already done three Himalaya treks and taken multiple trips with them. They're my go to travel companions
I have attended only one trip/event with TGE as of now and I loved it. It was well organized, the organizer was really cooperative and helped everyone in the team to make the trip a memorable one. I'd highly recommend this group to all friends and family and would love to attend their future events. Thank you.
