Himalayas are like home to several trekkers who miss no opportunity to find their inner peace in the lap of abundant nature and its warmth. One such home nestled in the Garhwal- Himalayan range is called Har Ki Dun. Ideal for beginners, this valley offers never ending lush greenery of deodar forest and the trail is sprinkled with chestnut and walnut trees. While trekking, you will be mesmerised by the view, especially of Swargarohini, Kalanag and Bandarpunch peaks. The beauty of Har ki doon is beyond words and locals are welcoming as though welcoming you with the warmth of their heart.
The trail and the exhilarating feeling of conquering the peak is best described when experienced and experience becomes a never ending memory when it is shared with new found friends. Don’t wait any further and book your spot right away because there is no place like home, isn’t it?

A 200 km drive from Dehradun take us to the quaint town of Sankri. It is advisable to start as early as 6:00 am to warrant enough buffer time to reach Sankri by late evening. The route is picturesque with the Yamuna Valley on one side and the blue Pine forest on the other. Passing through towns such as Mori and Purola we eventually reach Netwar, from where necessary forest permits need to be acquired to enter the Govind National Park. From here follow the course of the Supin river through conifer forest, apple orchards and farming fields to Sankri.
With around 200 houses, Sankri is a start point for multiple treks in that region. Most of the people are either trekkers or support staff, gearing up for their respective treks.
Famous for the beautiful sunset over the Swargarohini Peak, our evening will be spent exploring this beautiful town, interacting with the locals and acquainting with your fellow trekkers.
Trail from Sankri to Taluka is a leveled trail with 10- 11 mountain bends going through a forest of pine, deodar, bamboo and wild roses. We may have to cross some landslide prone areas as well as drive through a couple of streams en route. Today's trekking from Taluka to Osla alternates between uphills and leveled walks. With some sharp turns and steep climbs, the trail passes through the villages of Datmir, Gangaad and the incomplete cemented structures in Puani Garaat. We finally cross the river and take a steep uphill climb to the village of Osla. Here, we will stay with the locals and eat with them.
Today’s trail gradually climbs uphill, with some steep stretches, through a series of wheat fields, pine, rhododendron and cedar forests, meadows, clear lands and mountain bends. Coming across the highest settlement in that region, the trail ascends over the confluence of Supin and Ruinsara rivers and passes through a trail full of alpine flowers and blue poppy. The trail eventually ends with a steep climb, with patches of snow, to the meadows of Har Ki Doon.
The day will be a leisure one. If the weather permits, the day will be spent basking under the warm sun(hopefully) or lazing by the river. We might even take our lunch outdoors, eating it while sitting on the soft grass and listening to the music of the river.
Those interested can go to the nearby glacier, Maninda Taal in the morning.
We take the same route downhill all the way till Taluka. Post lunch, we will put ourselves and our luggage in a jeep taking us to Sankri. Those interested in trekking till Sankri can put their bags in the jeep instead of carrying it.

"Jammy" as we fondly call her has been trekking and backpacking all over India and neighboring countries for more than 10 years. Her favorite drink is tea, her most comfortable bed is under the stars and the mountains are her second home. Working earlier as an Interior designer, Jammy found her calling in the mountains and now she has been successfully leading and guiding teams on treks and expeditions for 8 years . If you are up for some tuneless karaoke and lots of singing, reach out to her
Try to catch up to her pace on an uphill climb, I dare you, I double dare you. An accomplished mountaineer, Reetu's love for trekking and travelling started 8 years ago. From then onwards, she left her lucrative career as an electronic engineer and pursued her dream of travelling around the world. A good book, a campsite by the river and lots of dogs and puppies is what keeps her going. Don't forget to ask her to make a cup of masala chai and Maggi for you, it's delicious. 😃

"The Great Escape" upholds its name, literally! Among the couple of trekking organisations that I have hiked with in Himalayas, TGE is one of the best. They plan the trek very well, adapting the route and camping locations to factors like weather and the footfall. The support staff is experienced and deft, food great, and trekking practices "green". The organisers themselves are friendly and look after the group well. At the same time, they are firm, decisive, and in a mode of continuous improvement! It is a pleasure trekking with TGE, and I would highly recommend them! Good luck Reetu & Jamila...and keep rocking !
The review is long due. I went with the organizers of The Great Escape multiple times and it was a very memorable experience. Well organized and curated treks with attention given to the minutest details. The organizers Reetu and Jamila are the best and I would recommend them to any

Very well organized treks. I know the organizers personally and can vouch for fun filled events that they organize. I have already done three Himalaya treks and taken multiple trips with them. They're my go to travel companions
I have attended only one trip/event with TGE as of now and I loved it. It was well organized, the organizer was really cooperative and helped everyone in the team to make the trip a memorable one. I'd highly recommend this group to all friends and family and would love to attend their future events. Thank you.
