The Place –
Western Ghats start from Southern tip of Gujarat and end down south in Kerala. A major portion of the Northern region of the Western ghats is situated in Maharashtra in Satara district. The Western Ghats are one of the world’s few Bio-Diversity Hotspots and houses a very intricate ecosystem. Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary and Chandoli National Park (together called as Sahyadri Tiger reserve) are an important portion of the protected areas in western Maharashtra. They are known for their characteristic landscape composed of hills and hillocks with rivulets and streams emerging from them and the typical plateaus at the top. They are also home to a wide range of endemic flora. Animals like Indian Gaur, Sambar, Barking deer, Indian Giant Squirrel are commonly seen here along with occasional sightings of the elusive nocturnal species like the Asian Palm civet, Jungle cat, Leopard cat and also the Indian leopard. It is a birders’ paradise with a great number of local as well some migratory birds calling it their home.

Kanha. The lengthening evening shadows. A cup of warm chai and never-ending conversations. This is how Footloose Journeys began.
Bablu, our driver in Kanha, was talking with unprecedented fervor. The jungle, traversed all day in the open-top safari, was coming alive once again. Bablu’s words were painting a picture unseen to the tourists. It was not that he had been reticent before. No one had bothered to ask.
The guides and drivers that unravel the mysteries of the forests often remain nameless. Hidden behind the veil of professional tourism, the real contributors to the forest perform a thankless job. It was the desire to repay their unspoken debt that got us started on Footloose. We are passionate travellers who believe that there is more to travelling than just “visiting” a place! We believe that travelling is more than just a bunch of tick-marks on the list of places you wish to visit. We believe that a traveller should try and understand the place rather than just be there. And with this credence, we aim at adding social values to tourism – for the benefit of both the visitors and the hosts!
One of the first volunteers of the team. An avid nature lover, his keen interest in the natural world has taken him to some of the most remote places in India at a very young age. He has chosen environmental studies as his academic interest as well. He regularly volunteers with researchers and even regional Forest Departments for conservation related studies and surveys. Travelling has earned him quiet a handful of knowledge, and that shows on the camps! Since he loves to connect with people, he makes sure that he makes close friends wherever he travels!

My first camp with footloose and the experience was amazing! At every point all of our needs were taken care of. Not only did we have fun, we also learnt new things and met new people. AWESOME!! Looking forward to more trips with this talented team.
I went for Song of the Saplings event with Footloose Journeys. It was an incredible experience, getting knees deep in mud and planting rice. We even played around in a small waterfall. Footloose had organized the trip really well and did provide value for me. Definitely going to go on more trips with Footloose Journeys.
