Breakfast, Dinner

Mornings in Meghalaya are the most beautiful. The sun rises early in North East India and gives us a wonderful opportunity to spend our morning either by relaxing by the lake side, going for a nice walks around the village or spending some time doing yoga.

A delicious breakfast is served after which we pack our bags and start for an exciting day ahead. Our first and most awaited stop for today is the Sacred Forest of Meghalaya in Mawphlang. As we enter in the forest, our local guide (who by the way is from the Royal Family) will tell us many interesting stories highlighting the significance of the forest, traditions followed, and the rare plants found there and their uses. He also is a great photographer and knows the rights spots to take the most uneblievable pictures in the forest. :D. We would get a great insight into the beliefs and traditions of the Khasis people of Meghalaya. Be prepared to be blown away by many interesting tales.

After our guided tour of the forest, we start our journey towards the 2nd wettest place on earth, Cherrapunji. Appx 40 Kms from Mawphlang, the route to Cherrapunji passed through beautiful ghats and villages.

En route, we will stop by and explore The Garden Of Caves. It's a natural space, created by seasonal waterfalls and fed by rains. Surrounded by the emerald greens of bushes and hedges, the Garden of Caves are home to many mesmerizing caves, waterfalls and cascades.

Our stay for tonight is in a beautiful resort perched at the edge of the mountain, offering a panoramic view of the nearby mountain ranges and waterfalls

Breakfast, Dinner

After Breakfast and spending the morning at our beautiful resort, we will spend the rest of the day exploring the various waterfalls and caves of Cherrapunji.

We start our day from one of the most beautiful falls in Cherrapunji , Nohkalikai. It falls from a height of 335 meters (1120 feet) as is regarded as the fifth highest waterfall of the world. It is the tallest plunge waterfall of India.

After that we head to yet another beautiful waterfall, also known as 3 steps falls or Wei Sowdong falls. Ashort 20 min hikes down the falls will take you to the different steps of the falls and the beautiful view points.

After seeping in the beauty of falls, we will head off to explore the Arwah Caves. Known for its limestone formations and fossils, it is surrounded by the thick forest of Law Shynna. Arwah Cave is an absolute treat for adventurers and archaeology junkies. The cave itself is significantly larger than Mawsmai but only a small part of the cave has been opened for tourists. It is about 300 meters which takes around 20 minutes to explore.

We will end the day by exploring the Mawsmai caves. Mawsmai Caves are formed out of limestone and enjoy the distinction of being the only caves in Meghalaya that are lit enough so that the tourists can enjoy its natural formations. Though the caves are quite long, only a distance of 150 meters is open for tourists while the remaining section is closed. This magnificent natural wonder is the handiwork of years of natural erosion and underground water.

Trek

Breakfast, Dinner

Gear up for an exciting trekking day. We take the bumpy 20km drive to the village of Tyrna

We dedicate this day to learn about the fascinating living root bridge of Meghalaya. The Umshiang double decker living Root Bridge is the mecca of all the living root bridges in Meghalaya. Getting there is no simple task. One has to descend 3500 cemented steps to Nongriat village that houses the Double decker living Root Bridge. After a descend of 1000 steps and trekking slightly off-route is a single decker living Root Bridge named Ritymmen, which hangs over a rain-fed river. Being 50 metres long, Ritymmen is also the longest known living root bridge. The bridge shakes and swings as one walks over it making the experience more adventurous.

Further hike towards the double decker bridge passes through several small villages, where people are always smiling and welcoming. There are also a couple of beautiful footbridges on the way. The double decker, hanging over the river, are created from the huge rubber trees sitting on either side. The roots are intertangled in a complex manner making the bridges more sturdy and strong. It’s truly a wonder in itself. The trail ahead of the Double decker living Root Bridge takes you to the natural pools and the famous Rainbow falls. (We definitely will be going there ;) )

We stay the night at a beautiful resort in Tyrna

It's always a pleasure travelling with TGE! The one thing I love most is their attention to detail, which ensures that your trip is a memorable one. Travelling with TGE is a wholesome experience, you see the larger more iconic places with no compromise on the little things. Travel with them if you want to interact with the people of the place, eat their food, in short experience their lives. These guys do a superb job of making everyone comfortable and everytime I travel with them I make beautiful bonds with all the other travellers. I would 100% recommend TGE to everyone who has the travel bug. It doesn't get better than this! ☺️❤️

I have known Reetu and Jamila for many years and have worked with them in the past. But this was the first time I decided to travel with them as a participant. When Reetu told me about exploring Spiti in winters I was completely on board. The itinerary sounded exciting and the pricing less. S my friend Manish and I immediately signed up for it. One of the best decisions I ever took. Spiti in winters in beautiful. The 7 days with the team was wonderful. We spent our days driving around the valley and our evenings dancing to pahadi songs. The planning was perfect with utmost care given in the choice of stay and comfort. Of course the highlight of the trip was spotting a snow leopard. Overall it was an amazing trip and I am looking forward to join many more with The Great Escape

Should I describe with “perfect planning” / “meticulous coordination”/ “cordial organiser”...might be with all of it.
Flawless execution is what makes them unique and organiser Reetu Yadav has let all of us experience it with her executional capabilities...

Clarity n flow of communication:-5/5
Accommodation cleanliness:-5/5
Food:-5/5 (delicious)

Action in Emergency:- very swift 5/5
Team has proved that its not all about the commercial trip but also the cause which is concealed in their carryings. What we pay at Flemingo Resort at Dholavira goes to educate and for taking care of more than 400 students and their boarding facilities as well.
Its not over yet, you will be pleased to meet the gifted souls from remote villages who are manifested in their respective disciplines like Rogan Art (Hon’le prime minister himself have gifted one to Barack Obama), Wood Art and Bell Art, Textile etc.
You will get to eat the delicious food made out of love from the local (A1 class food).
Off all, well planned itinerary and the execution is commendable. We RoK team who departed on 12th Dec’19 are truly happy with the onsite organiser Reetu Yadav and the offline backbone Jamila Kapasi who took good care of each of us at every stretch.
Their intact affirmative relation and proper delicacy in their execution makes then unique.
My best friend is much impressed with their proceedings and that makes me much happier than ever.
Last but not least, am fortunate to have rest 13 of the participants as part of my extended family. Again the credit goes to TGE.
Kudos to the team and i look for further association with “THE GREAT ESCAPE” ( you have already give our team a great escape from the routine.
Way to go TGE team!!!

Such great detailed planning at micro level and being open and upfront about the tour details impressed me at the very start. They lived up to their promise in every which way.
TGE’s expression of their solidarity towards the cause of the villagers by getting travellers to interact with them in a lively way and help the villagers in their livelihood was one of the primary reasons I chose to travel with TGE.
TGE means immersive experiential travel and what you get in return and come away with are unforgettable lifetime memories.
Looking forward to many more tours with TGE. Reetu and Jamila pull your collars up. Way to go! You will go miles!

The great escape recently took care of my 10 days family trip to Bhutan. We were 9 of us, including 2 kids and 2 elderlies. Each detail of the trip was so beautifully planned and coordinated. Jamila was personally in touch with drivers, hotels and homestay owners to ensure we ar getting the best of experience. We never even had to look for directions, call hotel or tell driver about anything. Everything was already taken care of and we were just the guests in very true sense. Such a wonderful trip it was. Everything was so beautiful including all the places where we stayed.
Much thanks to Jamila and the great escape team to make it work like magic for us!
100 stars!!
