Campers travelling by train or from any place other than Pune/Mumbai are requested to reach Chandigarh by 10:30 AM on Friday, 27th July 2018. Accommodation at Rampur will be at a luxury hotel on double/triple sharing basis.

Day 2

We start our day early and after a good breakfast proceed to our next destination. Today’s journey will take us through some breathtaking landscapes. By evening, we will reach Kalpa to embrace the Kinnaur Kailash peaks basking in the golden light at sunset. Accommodation at Kalpa will be at a luxury hotel on double/triple sharing basis.

Day 3

After breakfast, we will proceed towards Tabo for overnight stay. En-route, we will visit Nako lake and Geu – the only place in the world where a mummified monk has been preserved. A spectacular journey through some beautiful landscapes will take us to Tabo by evening. Accommodation at Tabo will be at heritage hotel on double/triple sharing basis.

Day 4

Today, we will explore the majestic Tabo Monastery. It is one of the oldest monasteries in the world, and also a protected site by Archeological Survey of India. After breakfast, we will head out to explore Dhankar Monastery. Dhankar is the former capital of Spiti empire and it houses the Dhankar Gompa which stands on a wind-cut cliff of a barren mountain offering beautiful panorama of the surrounding landscape. We will reach Kaza by evening and have a relaxing evening in the town. It is the district headquarters of Spiti and the largest town in the valley. It sits on the banks of the river Spiti and is bordered by mountains on either side. Accommodation at Kaza will be at a rustic hotel on double/triple sharing.

Day 5

The small villages of Hikkim and Komic await us today. Hikkim houses the highest post office in the world and is also the highest polling station in the world. Komic is a high altitude small, peaceful village. It offers spectacular views of surrounding landscapes and is a nice place to spend some relaxing time. We will return to Kaza for overnight stay.

Day 6

In the morning, we will explore the town of Kaza. After breakfast, we will proceed to Kibber. En-route, we will visit the Key Gompa, which is, without any doubt, one of the best spots in Spiti Valley. Just a few kilometers ahead of Key, lays the small village of Kibber. It has a small population that mainly survives on agriculture during the summer seasons. In the backdrop, one can see Mount Kanamo which is the highest peak in this region standing at 19,600 ft. Accommodation at Kibber will be at a homestay run by Tshiring and his family on triple sharing basis. Opting for home stays is also beneficial for the local communities as it helps them earn an extra bread for their families with the use of their traditional skills and knowledge.

Day 7

We start our day early and after a good breakfast proceed to our next destination. Today’s journey will take us through one of the highest passes in the Himalayas – the Kunzum La. A small winding road will take us to Chandra Taal further. It is a spectacular high altitude waterbody and is fed by the surrounding glaciers. This place offers magnificent views of night sky and the Milky Way. Accommodation at Chandra Taal will be in tents with attached washrooms on double/triple sharing.

Day 8

The long way home! We will start our return journey today. We will leave Chandra Taal in the morning and proceed to Manali for overnight stay. We cross another high altitude pass today – the Rohtang La. Late in the evening, we will reach Manali. Accommodation at Manali will be at a luxury hotel on double/triple sharing basis.

Day 9

Day two of our return journey will take us from Manali to Chandigarh. We will reach Chandigrah by nightfall and will check-in at our hotel. If you wish to skip this overnight halt, you can book your flight/train tickets for departure after 11:00 PM on 4th August 2018. Accommodation at Chandigarh will be at a luxury hotel on double/triple sharing.

Day 10

After a good night’s sleep, we will check-out of our hotel after breakfast. For campers who are flying to Pune, the most suitable flight is Jet Airways 9W-439.

I went for Song of the Saplings event with Footloose Journeys. It was an incredible experience, getting knees deep in mud and planting rice. We even played around in a small waterfall. Footloose had organized the trip really well and did provide value for me. Definitely going to go on more trips with Footloose Journeys.

This was my 3rd camp with Footloose and I must say that the experience has always been fantastic ! Their camps are not just about going to a sanctuary, spotting a tiger or a leopard, clicking some pictures and coming back. They educate you about the place. It's about loving and respecting the forest; Understanding the people and the animals living in the habitat ! Experiencing and exploring wildlife with footloose journeys is a must for all you travellers out there ! Can't wait for the next camp :)
