Valley of Flowers National Park is specially known for its floral diversity and unmatched natural beauty. This biome is home for more than 500 species of vascular plants, 160 + species of birds and other insects and mammals. At the meeting point of the Himalayan ranges, Zanskar and Western and Eastern Himalayas, the valley of flowers discovered by Mountaineer Frank S Smith in 1931 has been declared a world heritage site for its wild untamed blooms surrounded by white peaks. Famous for its exotic varieties of medicinal herbs, it is also believed that Hanuman brought Sanjivani to the ailing Lakshmana from the valley of flowers.

Driver from Joshimath to Govindghat. Our trek to Ghangaria starts from Govindghat
Today begins Valley Of Flowers Trekking in Uttaranchal with a short 14km gradual ascent trek from Govindghat to Ghangaria. Arrive at Ghangaria. Hotel check-in or camp out. Explore the surrounding. Have dinner and call-it-a-day. The trail is moist, full of Maple, Deodar and Rhododendron trees. Drongo, Magpie, Bushchat and Thrushes are common. After climbing to the top the ridge a View Point welcomes us. Total distance is 13 Km and may take 6/7 hours. Ghangaria is not a village but essentially a one street/main Bazar based settlement serving the tourists and pilgrims. There are several hotels/lodges, shops and a Gurudwara. Electricity and STD booths are available
This day marks the very reason for your entire high altitude Valley Of Flowers trek. Start your day with a wholesome breakfast. Scale a height of 3,858m to arrive at the Valley Of Flowers. This sight is a feast to the eyes and treat for the soul. The hike is gentle and we walk slowly to get the smell of the mist and contrasting colours. Closely observe the buds, leaves and flowers with combinations of different size, shape and colour. The river Pushpawati cuts along the valley and gushing down to the bottom of the valley. Look out carefully for the many tiny to medium size of birds on the trees and flowering plants. We trace back the same path and return to Ghangaria by early afternoon. Distance is 8 Km and time spent around 6/8 hours. Night stay in hotel.
Today after breakfast, we’ll follow a steep trail to Hemkund Sahib to visit the religious site where Guru Gobind Singh is said to have meditated in a previous life. Surrounded by seven snow-capped mountains this place is no doubt soothing and calming. Spend time here. And after lunch, start a late afternoon trek back to Ghangaria. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

"Jammy" as we fondly call her has been trekking and backpacking all over India and neighboring countries for more than 10 years. Her favorite drink is tea, her most comfortable bed is under the stars and the mountains are her second home. Working earlier as an Interior designer, Jammy found her calling in the mountains and now she has been successfully leading and guiding teams on treks and expeditions for 8 years . If you are up for some tuneless karaoke and lots of singing, reach out to her
Try to catch up to her pace on an uphill climb, I dare you, I double dare you. An accomplished mountaineer, Reetu's love for trekking and travelling started 8 years ago. From then onwards, she left her lucrative career as an electronic engineer and pursued her dream of travelling around the world. A good book, a campsite by the river and lots of dogs and puppies is what keeps her going. Don't forget to ask her to make a cup of masala chai and Maggi for you, it's delicious. 😃

"The Great Escape" upholds its name, literally! Among the couple of trekking organisations that I have hiked with in Himalayas, TGE is one of the best. They plan the trek very well, adapting the route and camping locations to factors like weather and the footfall. The support staff is experienced and deft, food great, and trekking practices "green". The organisers themselves are friendly and look after the group well. At the same time, they are firm, decisive, and in a mode of continuous improvement! It is a pleasure trekking with TGE, and I would highly recommend them! Good luck Reetu & Jamila...and keep rocking !
The review is long due. I went with the organizers of The Great Escape multiple times and it was a very memorable experience. Well organized and curated treks with attention given to the minutest details. The organizers Reetu and Jamila are the best and I would recommend them to any

Very well organized treks. I know the organizers personally and can vouch for fun filled events that they organize. I have already done three Himalaya treks and taken multiple trips with them. They're my go to travel companions
I have attended only one trip/event with TGE as of now and I loved it. It was well organized, the organizer was really cooperative and helped everyone in the team to make the trip a memorable one. I'd highly recommend this group to all friends and family and would love to attend their future events. Thank you.
