Women on Wanderlust - The Bhutan DiaryLeisure And Travel
What's This About?
Rivers flow through valleys carrying the chants of monks and multi-coloured prayer flags flutter in the sky; from bridges and temple, Dzongs (fortress-like monasteries) dot the mountains and it's all beautiful and serene. Bhutan is a tiny kingdom nestled in the Himalayas, is one of the few countries that has tried to let in some aspects of the outside world while fiercely guarding its ancient traditions. Bhutan is also known to have the highest happiness quotient around the world. The Bhutanese name for Bhutan, Druk Yul, means "Land of the Thunder Dragon" and it only began to open up to outsiders in the 1970. Bhutan is a unique country, with fabulous and rugged scenery and, perhaps more significantly, a unique national identity which they are keen to maintain. Take this trip with Beyond Xpeditions to see the beautiful valleys, rivers and hills. We would be visiting Thimphu, Punakha, and of course Paro.

The Tsechu is one of the best ways to experience the ancient living culture of Bhutan.
Punakha To Paro
After breakfast, wanderers would head out to Paro from Punakha. Paro Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in Bhutan, and it is also a historic one with multiple sacred sites and historic buildings. After Check in at the hotel and some time to fresh up we would visit the Ta Dzong -- a circular fortress that once protected this valley from the Tibetan invasion. It is now the National Museum with an excellent collection of Bhutanese antiquities. After a short drive back to Paro, we would visit Rinpung Dzong, which was built and consecrated in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.
